Playing with my food...and booze!

I'm not a big drinker, and thankfully the wifey isn't either.  That doesn't mean we aren't able to enjoy some good drinks though, and with a gift i received on my last birthday... things are about to get a little bit boozier at our place.  Not really gonna wordsmith it out for you, but I've tried creating Candy Corn Vodka.  It's all done and chilling in the fridge now.  My current project is a Strawberry Kiwi Rum.  I didn't purchase a huge glass infusion jar because i quite honestly didnt want the spout that a lot of them seemed to have.  So i opted for buying them from a glass bottle seller (Website Here).  They're not the largest of containers, so most of what i'm doing is going to have to be split in half, possibly thirds.  It really just depends on how much stuff i'm putting in the jars for infusion.  Here we go to today's beginning.

Ingredients (for the batch):
1 lb strawberries
2 kiwi
750 ml Plain Rum

How i did what i did:

Step 1:  Cull and cut the strawberries into halves, and peel the kiwi and remove their skin (or remove the skin and then cut them up, whichever you prefer).  Then, since i'm using two jars for this, i split everything up on plates.  I have one kiwi on each plate and then my lb of strawberries gave me about 1-1/4 cups of strawberries per plate.

Step 2:  You guessed it i'm sure.  Put the fruit in the bottom of the jars and then add half the booze to each jar.  750 ml is about 26 oz, so 13 in each and then seal it up.

Step 3: No picture sorry, but you simply keep the jar(s) in a cool place out of direct sunlight.  Other recipes i've seen state you want to have it infuse for 2-3 weeks so that's what we're going to try out.  I'll try to remember to post some pictures here as the process goes, and try it every week to see how things are going.

Step 4: After things have infused, i'll be pouring the infused alcohol into a large bottle through a funnel lined with cheesecloth to strain the seeds/fibers/etc.  If you want to be earth conscious just keep your original bottle.  Then refrigerate it.  Good luck!  I'll let you know how mine turns out.
